Sometimes, the best jobs are the ones we didn’t even realize existed. If you’ve been looking to make a change but weren’t sure where to go next, the team of press operators at Webster Industries might be just the right fit.
Webster Industries is actively seeking 5-7 individuals to fill the role of press operator. Folks who serve in this department are mechanically minded. Maybe you consider yourself a “gear head” and spend your free time working on your car or someone else’s… not because you have to but because you want to. The kind of precision and attention to detail that is required to be an auto mechanic is the same set of skills that can help you thrive in this type of role.
There’s a lot more to being a press operator than just standing around and pushing buttons or running metal through a press. The punch press cuts, shapes, and forms metals and requires precision and mechanical knowledge to make sure the press performs the process correctly. When you join the Webster team, you will be trained on day shift with a designated trainer, a member of the leadership team that has been singled out to work with newer employees so that you can quickly feel confident in your work and become part of the team.
Once you know what you’re doing on the punch press, Webster provides comprehensive SOP and detailed instructions for you to set up the presses and perform each job.
The starting pay for someone with no experience whatsoever in this job is $17.50, which is one of the highest in this department. Base pay for each person is determined after you’ve completed a mechanical aptitude test. If you are the type of person described above, you’re likely to progress rapidly through Webster’s training, which means that you’ll also move up the ladder quickly and increase your base pay faster.
Most of our new press operators begin at a B classification and then work up to a higher level. Pressman B operators start by running 50% of the equipment. Pressman A operators are able to run all of the equipment and train people. These folks serve as group leaders or are on their way to other leadership positions at Webster.
Webster prides itself on developing a strong team atmosphere that builds up each team member, looking for ways to help each other achieve their goals and thrive in the company. Our company thrives at building camaraderie in each department, which isn’t always true in a manufacturing environment.
Apply today to become part of the Webster team of press operators.
