In 2014, David Garno had just moved to the area and was looking for work. His uncle was a third-shift supervisor at the time and thought Webster Industries would be a good fit for him.
According to David, the people are the best thing about working at Webster. “There’s a lot of good guys that work here, and the office staff is helpful when you need something,” David said.
David currently works on the punch press, where he runs chain presses. He also uses a heat induction coil to heat up steel and bend it to a 90-degree angle. His part in the process is the starting point for the rest of the manufacturing line; it prepares the raw material for the assembly department or for welding. From there, chains David has helped to make travel into industries around the globe.
“It’s hard work but it’s satisfying work,” said David. “When you see the final product and know that you’re helping all these industries get their products out, seeing the end process of lumber yards, grain processors, and other industries… It's really satisfying.”
Some of the chains David has helped manufacture have ended up in amusement parks, steel mills, recycling centers, automotive manufacturing facilities, water facilities, foundries, and more.
When David was hired, he came in with some familiarity with presses, but even so, Webster made sure he had the training he needed to operate machinery with confidence.
David works during the day now and attends school at night. With Webster’s tuition reimbursement program, David is going to school to be an Industrial Mechanic, which will open up opportunities for him to advance into a maintenance position at Webster.
“There are a lot of opportunities to be promoted within the company. If you go to school, you can pretty much get into the programs you are looking for,” David said. “Webster will help you better yourself. If you invest in them, they’ll invest in you.”
If you’re looking for a place that will help you move up into higher-paying roles with more responsibility and the training you need to succeed, Webster might be the place for you, too. Explore job openings and learn more about how Webster can help you move up the ranks.
